What changed
Tesla introduced a feature that lets drivers leave a charging session before it finishes during an emergency. The change follows a mass shooting at a Tesla Supercharger in Idaho in August that left seven people wounded and four dead.
Why it matters
A charging stop is usually treated as a fixed pause: the car stays put until enough power is available. Tesla is now acknowledging that, in an emergency, leaving immediately can matter more than completing the session.
That changes the role of the Supercharger from a purely electrical service point into a place where drivers may need a rapid escape option. The feature’s exact operation, availability date and compatibility with Tesla vehicles and Superchargers remain unspecified, so its practical value will depend on how broadly and quickly it reaches users.
