White House Brings Tech Leaders Together for AI Safety Pledge

It’s not AI anymore, it’s ‘super intelligence’ (according to the White House)

What changed

The White House brought Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei together to sign an AI safety pledge. President Donald Trump called it “morally binding” and signed an executive order to officially rebrand AI terminology.

Why it matters

The pledge puts the biggest technology companies in the same room around a shared safety promise. That is politically significant, but its practical force remains unclear: the reported terms do not say what companies must do, how compliance would work or what penalties would follow.

The executive order also changes the language around AI. That may sound cosmetic, but labels shape policy, corporate messaging and public expectations. The replacement term and implementation details have not been identified, so the immediate effect is a shift in official vocabulary rather than a clear change in how systems operate.

The useful test now is simple: whether “morally binding” becomes a set of measurable commitments, or remains a powerful phrase attached to an undefined pledge.
