Iberseries Launches Euro-Atlantic TV Co-Production Pitch Program

Iberseries & Platino Industria has launched the Euro-Atlantic Series Co-Pro Pitch Program, a new Madrid-based initiative for television projects seeking to advance development through meetings with potential partners.

Why it matters

The program gives selected producers scheduled one-to-one and one-to-many meetings with prospective partners, creating a formal route to seek financing, production and distribution relationships.

Iberseries & Platino Industria has launched the Euro-Atlantic Series Co-Pro Pitch Program, a new Madrid initiative designed to help development-stage TV projects connect with partners for financing, production and distribution. This account is based on reporting by Variety.

The first edition will bring projects from Spain, Belgium, France, Portugal, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Canada and Uruguay together with two invited projects tied to Göteborg Film Festival and Seriencamp. Meetings are scheduled throughout Sept. 29, followed by a public presentation at Cineteca Matadero on Sept. 30. Iberseries & Platino Industria runs in Madrid from Sept. 29 to Oct. 2.

Nine projects span drama, documentary, thriller, comedy and historical coming-of-age stories. They include Spain’s festival-scandal drama “Callback,” Malvalanda’s athlete-motherhood docuseries “Heartbeats,” planned for 2027/28, and the Canada-Belgium thriller “In Memoriam, Season 2.” “Heartbeats” has received development funding from the Community of Madrid, Variety reported.

How the effects could spread

The immediate beneficiaries are selected producers, who will have one-to-one and one-to-many sessions with potential partners. If those discussions turn into financing, co-production or distribution commitments, attached casts and crews could see projects move closer to production over the following year. That chain can break if meetings do not produce agreements or financing remains incomplete.

Impact assessment

For producers, the program creates a curated route to potential cross-border partners during the event. For companies considering projects, it widens the pool of European and Atlantic titles to assess, while leaving them to judge which development-stage works merit investment. For Madrid’s audiovisual-event ecosystem, the added program expands the market’s activity, though its longer-term value depends on partnerships emerging after the sessions.

Scenarios

Our outlook (informed speculation): Most likely: If the program proceeds as scheduled and partners find projects aligned with their needs, selected producers will pursue cross-border discussions in the weeks after Madrid, with only some projects likely to announce financing, co-production or distribution arrangements within six to 12 months. New partner credits, production schedules and formal deal announcements would support that path.

Upside: If several projects secure partners able to combine financing, production capacity and distribution support, multiple titles could advance from development into production over the next year, increasing cross-border work around the selected slate. Confirmed production starts and named platform or distribution partners would be the clearest signs.

Downside: Unless prospective partners find sufficient commercial alignment, the program may chiefly deliver exposure and networking, leaving producers to continue seeking finance elsewhere and production timelines unsettled. Projects remaining in development without announced partners would point to that outcome.

What to watch next

The first immediate test is whether the Sept. 29 meetings and Sept. 30 Cineteca Matadero presentation take place as planned. Longer term, announcements of financing, co-production, production or distribution deals will show whether the pitch program converted conversations into commitments. Malvalanda’s confirmation of “Heartbeats” production in 2027 or 2028 would provide a separate concrete milestone.
